Beginningggg

Hey, it’s the big day! After several months of preparation and other things, I’m off on the roads of France! But let’s not go too fast and let’s go back a bit (flashback style as in the movies).

Preparations began at the beginning of 2023 when I started to find out about the possibilities of making this trip, to make the passport arrangements, to find out about the vaccinations recommended before leaving, the budget to be provided, etc. A stay in Italy later and here I am in serious preparations: contacting the international travel centres to make appointments, drawing up a list of the equipment I need, starting shopping, creating this wonderful blog and thinking about the itinerary (approximately). During my stay in the south, I took the opportunity
to get all the vaccinations and put together a file to create a project with the children of Treillières. At the beginning of September, everything accelerates: in parallel with my work as an animator in the schools (dedication to Mélanie), I finalize my backpack, finish the preparations, launch the writing project with the children, say goodbye to colleagues/friends/ family and then leave on Wednesday 27 September 2023 in the early morning (11am, early morning, it’s important).

  • – Departure on the motorway area of Vertou near Nantes
    – Waiting at a toll booth north of Saintes
    – The famous citroën 2Cv
    – Selfie with Christophe, the owner of the 2Cv
    – Origami made by Paul near Agen
    – The other famous car without license RedBull

Getting out of the big cities is always a bit complicated and Nantes is no exception. I manage to leave the south of Nantes around 4pm and find myself in a car towards La Rochelle. Then everything goes very fast. I only waited a few minutes. (maybe seconds!) and here I am on my way to a small town north of Saintes. I will spend the night wild camping in the south of Saintes to leave at dawn (8am this time). The stop works great and here I am in the small town of Saint Selve (the countryside south of Bordeaux) to visit my cousin and the small family. The next day, after spending 3 hours in the car with a little granny, I arrive in the countryside of Agen where I start looking for a place to pitch my tent. Hey, surprise, a car pulls up and offers me to sleep at their place for the night. No night under the stars that night but a great aperitif dinner with
Angelique’s family and friends of their own! (Thanks again to the whole family and not to mention Newton!) I left again on Saturday 30th September where the hitchhiking went really well (13 drivers for that day). The day was marked by a stretch of road in a 2CV (thank you, Christophe), a car without a license and an arrival in Albi at my godmother’s house just in time to have the aperitif!
