Amazon crossing, INFOS 2026

Here is a place where you can find all the information I gathered about crossing the Amazon from Yurimaguas (Peru) to Macapa (Brazil). This journey was made in February 2026. It’s important to note that each company is different regarding amenities, food, etc. Having traveled by slow boat, I mainly provide information on those. However, there is also a fast option available.

Yurimaguas-Iquitos

🚩 Boarding from the port of La Ramada or from the port of La Boca. Go directly to the port, ask for boats to Iquitos, and board directly. Payment is made later. Departures in the evening (~5 PM).

Remember to bring drinking water for the duration of the crossing, a Tupperware and utensils for eating, a hammock (or the possibility to sleep on the ground), snacks (optional), toilet paper, something to keep you occupied, and a bit of cash for the street vendors.

🍲 Possibility of having a meatless plate.

💰 The crossing lasts (64 hours) and costs 25 soles all inclusive. ⚠️ It’s important to know that this price is a promotion; normal prices are around 100 soles.

The express option costs 200 soles for a journey of approximately 12 hours.

Iquitos – Triple border

🚩 Embarkation from Puerto Masusa or Puerto da Costa. Go directly to the port, ask for the boats to the triple border, and board directly. Payment is made later. Departures are in the late afternoon (~5 PM).

Remember to bring drinking water for the duration of the crossing, a Tupperware and cutlery for eating, a hammock (I haven’t seen anyone sleep on the ground but it’s probably doable), toilet paper, snacks (optional), something to keep yourself occupied, and a bit of cash for the street vendors.

🍲 No vegetarian option, we have to give the meat to the neighbor.

The crossing lasts (36 hours) and costs 80 soles all inclusive.

The express option costs 150 soles for a journey of about 12 hours.

⚠️ Before leaving Santa Rosa, be sure to have your passport stamped at the Peruvian immigration office before going to Colombia or Brazil. Open from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Tabatinga – Manaus

⚠️ First of all, remember to have your passport stamped by the services of the Brazilian immigration.

🚩 Boarding from PortoBras. Buy your ticket at the terminal and then board with everyone. Departure around 12 PM.

Boats with more amenities. There is free drinking water on board, toilet paper. Tupperware is optional but recommended to keep food. Think about a hammock, cash (small store on board), and something to keep you entertained.

🍲 Possibility of having without meat (not all the time), very repetitive meals.

💰 The crossing lasts (80 hours) and costs 290 reais all included.

The express option costs 150 EUROS for a journey of about 30 hours.

Manaus – Santarém

🚩 Boarding from the Public Port of Manaus. Purchase your ticket at the terminal and then board the boat. Departures around 11 AM – 12 PM.

There is free drinking water on board, as well as toilet paper. Tupperware is optional but recommended to keep food fresh. Think about bringing a hammock, cash (small shop on board), and something to keep yourself entertained.

Food not included. Each meal costs R$25. Snacks can be purchased at the store or you can bring your own meals.

💰 The crossing lasts (31 hours) and costs 180 reales WITHOUT FOOD.

The quick option costs 520 reales for a journey of approximately 12 hours.

Santarém – Santana (Macapá)

🚩 Boarding from Porto DER. Buy your ticket from the terminal and then board the boat. Departures at 6 PM.

There is free drinking water on board, toilet paper. Tupperware is optional but recommended to keep food. Think about bringing a hammock, cash (small store on board), and something to keep you entertained.

Food not included. Each meal costs R$ 25. Snacks can be purchased at the store or meals can be brought from home.

💰 The crossing lasts 31 hours and costs 300 reais WITHOUT FOOD.

There is only one boat per week, no fast option (to my knowledge).
